The science never pointed in any direction to suggest that single-use plastic bags were a safer option than paper bags or reusable cloth totes when it came to virus transmission, but that did not stop Gov. Lamont from caving to whiny industries. Early information about transmission indicated that the active virus could be found on plastic three times longer than on paper or cloth.
In the weeks following the disposable bag fee suspension, plastic bags once again began to accumulate in the gutter and in parks, mixing in with the other bits of disgusting litter: one-use masks and gloves.
Thankfully, we may again return to living in a world where geese aren’t tripping over the wastefulness of humans. Retailers should resume collection of the tax on laziness on July 1, 2020.
