In August I made a few additions to Real Hartford. The Walk Hartford event has returned. I tinkered with the site menu. Those changes were just a warm up.

First off, I’ve changed the site tagline to “and beyond.” Real Hartford is still about the experience of living in Hartford, but I am building off this to include writing about other places where I wander, when the mood strikes.

To reflect this evolution, the site menu has been adjusted again. “Hartford” gives you posts about Hartford proper. “Beyond” gets you to writing and photography about surrounding towns, places beyond that, and the Suggestion Box posts, the latter of which shares good ideas and practices from elsewhere that Hartford could (and should) adopt.

While expanding Real Hartford’s range, I made serious updates to the About, Contact, and Support pages. Most people don’t bother to read those, and that’s totally fine, but these are the entry points for newbies and folks looking to collaborate or pitch something. I’ve changed in a few important ways since starting this in 2007, and it is absolutely time to get Real Hartford up to speed with those changes.

While it looks like I have not been doing anything much if one only looks at the Real Hartford site, I’ve been creating more than usual. In the last year I have been collaborating with Johnna Kaplan on the Going/Steady podcast, and with the creation of a Patreon account, been doing quite a bit of writing on other topics there. It took awhile to figure out how to merge these projects. You’ll start to see more content on Real Hartford in upcoming weeks.
