The annoying construction in Bushnell Park is made less annoying because of a few things that should happen for every project:
1. There was communication about this via email to those who have found themselves on the Friends of Bushnell Park mailing list. Before any trucks or other equipment showed up in the park, people were notified.
2. There are signs in the park communicating what’s being (or going to be) messed with, and when. These are not blocking sidewalks; they’re in visible spots, but off to the side.
3. There are efforts to maintain as much access as possible by using ramps that go up and over pipes.
4. Areas that are closed off are obviously closed, in a way that can be seen at a distance so you aren’t making a long walk and striking a dead end.
Now that we know a construction project in a park can be handled reasonably, there is something we can point to when projects outside of Bushnell Park don’t do these things.

I love that you posted about this. I was worried approaching those ramps on my bike but they are excellent. So much better than just closing off paths entirely and parking a number of construction vehicles on the sidewalk!

I kinda wondered if these measures were taken because MDC headquarters is in walking distance of the construction and they didn’t want angry people to come knocking . . . but, whatever it takes!
