in The Future We Choose: The Stubborn Optimist’s Guide to the Climate Crisis

Wandering along the river and then through the woods this weekend all of nature might have appeared dormant were I moving fast and not really noticing my surroundings, or if I had decided months ago that we were in “stick season” and conditioned myself to expect drabness.

Sage, greens, an actual flowering dandelion. Has vegetation slumbered for even one full week this season?

At one time, I would have thought it impossible in New England to see flowers blooming this late into winter, yet here we are.

Climate Possibilities is a series about climate mitigation, along with resilience, resistance, and restoration. It’s about human habitat preservation. It’s about loving nature and planet Earth, and demanding the kind of change that gives future generations the opportunity for vibrant lives. Doomers will be eaten alive, figuratively. All photographs are taken in Hartford, Connecticut unless stated otherwise.
