Here is your curated Hartford event calendar for July 2022.

What makes this list? Events that I would either attend or recommend to a good friend.

Check with each venue for information about Covid protection procedures and to verify that an event is still happening. If I think a venue’s Covid protection policies are soft, its indoor events are not listed.

ADD TO CALENDAR

  • BODIES ON THE LINE: The Twain House is hosting a virtual conversation between Susan Campbell and Lauren Rankin, author of Bodies On The Line: At The Front Lines Of The Fight To Protect Abortion In America. This free event begins at 7 PM on July 5, 2022. Register for this online conversation here.

  • STREET SALSA: Dance in Pratt Street from 5-8 PM on July 8, 2022. Free.
  •  JAZZ AND JUSTICE: Come to Bushnell Park on July 11, 2022 for the free jazz; stay to mobilize for safer streets.

  •  LATANYA FARRELL: Listen to her sing in Hartford’s Elizabeth Park by the rose garden on July 13, 2022 from 6:30-8 PM. Bring your own lawn blanket or chairs.

  • GATEWAYS: Timing is everything.  Christa Whitten‘s exhibit “Gateways to the Places We’re Told We Cannot Go” opens on July 15 at the library’s ArtWalk Gallery. The official description: “This series focuses on the partial or completely restricted access to powerful, spiritually-charged locations around the globe. Although denial of access can be based on a variety of factors, this show addresses restrictions which involve gender. Some sites ban women (or, less frequently, men) outright, while others institute conditional limitations, such as non-access during menstruation.” If you can’t make the opening from 5:30-7:30 PM, you can view this exhibit whenever the library is open until August 27, 2022.

  •  SPIRITED AWAY: Bring your chair or blanket and watch Spirited Away outside on Constitution Plaza at 8:30 PM on July 16, 2022. Free.

  • BARK & VINE POP-UP: For whatever reason, KNOX doesn’t do its giant plant sale anymore, and unless it’s well hidden, Hartford does not have an independent plant shop. Bark & Vine, an independent New Haven-based business, will be setting up temporary shop at Hartford Prints! on July 17, 2022 from 12-3 PM. I like that they understand the concept of labeling plants as “pet safe.”
  •  STREETLIGHT SHAKERS: Bring a lawn blanket and picnic to Cedar Hill Cemetery and listen to live music, as one does. July 22, 2022 from 6-8 PM. Free

  •  SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK: Three chances to catch a free, outdoor performance of The Tempest at Mortensen Riverfront Plaza — 7-9 PM on July 22 and July 23, and 2-4 PM on July 24, 2022.

  •  NEVERENDING STORY: Watch The Neverending Story outside on Constitution Plaza at 8:30 PM on July 23, 2022. This is free. Bring your own chair or blanket.

  • LABYRINTH: Free screening of Labyrinth at Constitution Plaza on July 30, 2022 at 8:30 PM. Bring your own chair or blanket to sit on.
