Everybody calm down.
It’s not trash like the downtown Circle of Death near Bushnell Park.
Besides giving pedestrians reasonable opportunities to cross, this one is tighter and easier to decipher. Striping (painted yellow and white lines) is consistent at the Russ/Park Terrace/Sigourney roundabout.
There are yellow arrows painted on the middle structure, reminding motorists which way traffic should be flowing.
Signs tell drivers what situation they are in and what they need to be doing. Shark teeth tell motorists where to stop their vehicles when yielding to others. The placement does seem to suggest that there will be jaydriving — motorists lazily leaving their vehicles blocking crosswalks — though the overall effect will be a dramatic increase in safety at what had been a speedway carving up Pope Park and interfering with an elementary school.
It’s not open yet, and the Sigourney Street bridge is going to be under construction beginning at the end of September, but signs point to soon.
