More and more self-serve food pantries are being installed around Hartford. The one in the photograph is on Evergreen Avenue in the West End.
The advantages: you don’t need to rearrange your schedule, as these are accessible every day of the week, even at 3 AM. There are no lines to stand in. You don’t need someone else to hand you the food. They are actually in the neighborhoods, rather than far flung places; you don’t need to find special transportation to a repurposed stadium or site in an otherwise industrial part of town.
The contents can be hit or miss, and tend to be packaged rather than fresh food, but this varies from location-to-location.
The noodle bowl icons on this map show the approximate locations of the sites I know about. If there are any self-serve, 24/7 pantries missing, let me know so I can make updates.
