ADD TO CALENDAR

  • VOTE: If you did not already do this, get it done. Show respect for others by voting the fascists out. 8 PM on November 3, 2020 is last call.
  • GET A FLU SHOT: St. Francis is running a community flu shot clinic on November 5 from 10 AM till 3 PM in Gengras Auditorium at 1000 Asylum Avenue. Everyone attending will need to properly wear a mask and keep a minimum of six feet away from those not in your household.

Now, here’s all the rest:

  • BLACK VIOLIN: Watch a recorded concert of this duo playing a fusion of classical and hip hop. This is a pay-what-you-can virtual event through the Bushnell, with multiple times to watch from November 1 through December 12, 2020.
  • SUFFRAGE CENTENNIAL: If you’re wondering where the live-and-in-person events are still happening these days, they are in the cemeteries. Perhaps it’s the ever-present specter of death in them that is enough to convince visitors to practice scientifically-proven safety protocols like wearing masks correctly and maintaining physical distance from others. Anyhow, if you have an “I Voted” sticker, you are invited to come to Cedar Hill Cemetery and place it on Isabella Beecher Hooker’s gravesite. Then, stick around to learn more about her and others who fought for women’s right to vote. Three times during the afternoon, an actress portraying Beecher Hooker will read from her writings about suffrage: 1:15, 2:30, and 3:45. There is no charge to participate. This is one day only: November 3, 2020.
  • LEARN CONNECTICUT HISTORY: Pamela Massey, the Traditions and Outreach Specialist at the Mohegan Tribe of Indians of Connecticut, will be giving a virtual talk about the history, rituals, and objects sacred and meaningful to the Mohegan tribe. This will take place at noon on November 4, 2020. The access link will be made available through the Wadsworth Atheneum.
  • WOMEN OF THE ODYSSEY: This is a free, virtual event. I can’t explain it better than they did, so here’s what they say: “Vincent Tomasso, professor of classics at Trinity College, and choreographer Sonia Plumb reveal the relevance of ancient Greek and Roman cultures through an analysis of Homer’s The Odyssey and Plumb’s contemporary exploration of Penelope in the dance she choreographed, Penelope’s Odyssey.” You can watch by following this link. It is scheduled for 6-7 PM on November 12, 2020.
  • PROTEST AND PROMISE: Get out your “Museums Are Not Neutral” mug, pour yourself a coffee, and listen as Wadsworth curator Patricia Hickson gives an online talk about how art asks us to rethink our values or pushes us to confront injustice and inequality. Zoe Leonard’s “i want a president”, recently acquired by the Wadsworth, will be included in the discussion. This is from 12 -1 PM on November 13, 2020. Follow this link for more information.
  • HARVEST MARKET: Knox (75 Laurel Street) will be hosting its annual harvest market on November 21, 2020. There will be vendors and entertainment. Check back with Knox for more details including hours of operation.
