Normally when these Walk Hartford outings take place, they involve a handful of people, in person, and we take a break for lunch or have drinks after. The walks that I designed back in January will still happen, but differently than planned. You can “join” by watching the videos and viewing pictures of the excursions, and if you’d like, use the map of the route to go walk it on your own (or with your people).
The first Virtual Walk Hartford outing explores our city’s stories of past plagues. There are five video stops along the route. Due to weather, this needed to be filmed over two days, but it can be done in one. Pack your water and a snack — all the places I would have stopped under normal conditions are currently closed due to Covid-19. There is minimal editing and maximum awkwardness to keep this as real-to-life as possible.
Here is the virtual outing. In the upper left corner of the gray bar is a slider with an arrow. Click on that, then click on the numbers in order for the videos to make the most sense. If all else fails, just click on things until something happens:
Here is a map of the route — zoom in for street names:

As a person who loves her/his/story I consider this to be an amazing work. I do hope you show it to the folks at CTHS. It should be shown at the Hartford History Center when the restrictions are re-laxed. Great job and keep working. Art of these times? YES! The man behind the camera is doing a great job too.

Thanks! Tony will be glad to hear that. He endured a lot in the creation of this 🙂
