There are ways to reduce congestion that (1) actually work, and (2) do not encourage an increase in carbon emissions:
- carpooling or vanpooling
- taking the bus
- riding a bike
- telecommuting
- staggering one’s work schedule when it’s not necessary to be in the office from exactly 9-5
- opting to live close to one’s job, instead of working in the city and living out in the hinterlands
The State of Connecticut can help these choices through:
- congestion pricing
- expanding transit
But in the meantime, enjoy the art that this project has inspired on the East Hartford side (above) and the interstate wasteland between the city and the Connecticut River.
