The quiet installation of three new diesel fuel tanks at CT Transit’s garage on Leibert Road in the North Meadows undermines efforts to reduce environmental and health impacts of diesel exhaust.
One year ago, Gov. Lamont said: “Everything I do in the next four years, I’m going to do looking through an environmental lens.” So far, we’re not seeing strong efforts in this direction despite his promise to get “people out of their darned cars.” Instead, we get evidence that there is no rush to electrify our public transportation, nor meaningfully expand mass transit. While the diesel tanks were no doubt something under contract from the previous administration, they are a visible reminder of how hard it can be to take certain State of Connecticut departments seriously.
As they say, it’s like building horse barns when the carriage is becoming obsolete.
