Youth will lead global climate strikes during the week of September 20-27, 2019. During this time, there are multiple local opportunities to get more involved in human habitat preservation in Hartford:
September 20: Rally at the State Capitol from 12-2 PM. The intention of this is to demand that elected officials take “immediate and drastic action” to prevent additional climate change.
September 20-22: Walk, Bike, or Carpool to Service — The Interreligious Eco-Justice Network is asking people to not drive solo to their place of worship this weekend.
September 23: Stop by the Hartford Public Library for a free viewing of the documentary film Paris to Pittsburgh. Light refreshments will be available at 5 PM; movie scheduled to start at 5:30. Following the film, ten community members will have the chance to win free tickets to the upcoming Connecticut Forum conversation about the climate crisis.
September 27 and 28: Take part in the annual Source To Sea Cleanup. There are numerous sites along the Connecticut River, with two cleaning events planned for Hartford — one north of Charter Oak Landing and another north of Riverside Park.
Don’t feel like waiting until September to get involved? The Interreligious Eco-Justice Network is holding an interfaith service on Monday, August 26th to pray for Amazonia, which is currently ablaze. This takes place at 224 Farmington Avenue, from 6:30 to 8 PM.
