The 55th Greater Hartford West Indian Independence Celebrations on Saturday included the annual parade, starting at Main and Battles Streets.
Here’s the truth about parades: they are tiring. Walking and dancing, on asphalt, for nearly two miles during the hottest part of the day with nothing overhead providing shade, is going to be a test for most people. Especially the younger ones. As you’ll notice, I’m including photos where people are not smiling, because this is reality. They might’ve resumed grinning seconds later, but everyone needs to stop once in awhile to drink water, make wardrobe adjustments, and breathe.
The parade concluded by Bushnell Park where musical entertainment continued throughout the afternoon.
