A number of new signs have been popping up in and around downtown.
The one above is mounted on the I-91 pedestrian/cyclist bridge that connects Riverside Park with the northern section of Downtown. The vibrant signs (yes, more than one) invite passersby to use the bridge, which has come off as intimidating to some. The signs’ creator has worked on murals throughout the city; you can see some of her other work on the back of the Goodyear building.
Elsewhere, the signs are more functional than fun.
All good things must come to an end, and that includes the temporary one-way situation near Bushnell Park. For pedestrians, this can mean longer waits to cross, and of course, we need to retrain ourselves to look in all directions before doing that. That said, the distance from Trumbull Street to Bushnell Park has been reduced.
The elevated plazas have new signs indicating that there is more than office buildings to see in the area.
Bonus: What we’ve found is that the estimated times on these signs are for exceptionally leisurely pedestrians, so if you are looking for a quick way to feel better about your abilities, time yourself on these walks.
