Transgender residents of New England seeking to update their legal name and gender can receive free legal assistance through the Pop-Up Transgender ID Project.
GLAD — GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders — along with the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition have arranged for lawyers from Ropes & Gray LLP to assist with completing legal name changes, followed by updating information on federal and state documents including social security cards, U.S. passports, driver’s licenses, state-issued identification cards, and birth certificates issued in New England.
Jennifer Levi, director of GLAD’s Transgender RIghts Project, said “accurate identity documents are critical for the safety and dignity of transgender people.”
Besides the named documents, lawyers may be able to assist with others, including birth certificates issued outside of New England.
Those looking to participate in the project can either call 1-800-455-GLAD or fill out GLAD’s contact form.

Thank you for publishing this important article. Your help in protecting our sisters and brothers in the Transgender community is very much appreciated in these very uncertain times. It is our hope that anyone reading this will pass it on to others so folks become aware of the project and begin to protect themselves. One way to help fight back against the regime ready to take center stage in this country.
