Though Real Hartford announced the night-time construction on Park Street, many residents were caught completely off-guard. That is despite the City’s press release stating that it and SAMA (Spanish American Merchants Association) would be contacting Park Street business owners and landlords. We have heard from both area landlords and residents that they were not given notice. In an election year when the public is bombarded with a constant stream of information, it is easy for news about travel and sleep disruptions to get lost.
The City of Hartford’s Department of Public Works has posted on its website some information about Spring road construction. As of May 21, 2015, the only dates listed are for the construction that began on Park Street earlier this week.
As it turns out, this is an incomplete list.
Councilperson Joel Cruz, on his Facebook page, published a more extensive list of 2015 paving projects. These include the MDC’s restoration projects. The MDC’s list gives a timeframe narrowed to one month for its construction completion; City of Hartford provides only the season.
None of these schedules mention the ongoing construction on Park Street near CTfastrak‘s Parkville Station. To get that information, and details about any other busway-related construction, one needs to seek out updates from CTfastrak.

Wonder if any of these projects include striping new bike lanes to coincide with the adopted Parks Plan with city wide connected bike routes?
Is DPW following the previous norm (not yet a policy) of incorporating Complete Streets design and bike lanes whenever possible? With so much paving this year, it’s a once a decade opportunity to address bike and pedestrian safety shortfalls. Bike lanes are proven to increase local shopping and spur housing and infill development.
These are open questions more for DPW and Development Services than for Real Hartford.

We were told no bike lanes for Park Street.
