Don’t get too attached. The new residents are moving in today.
This owner-occupied, restored 1875 Italianate at the corner of Imlay and Hawthorne is directly across the street from the new Sigourney Street busway station. This is a few blocks from where Katharine Hepburn, Mark Twain, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and other notables lived.
The house is part of the “New Nook Farms” development in Asylum Hill and is the first instance of transit-oriented development to emerge along the CTfastrak corridor.
The non-profit Northside Institutions Neighborhood Alliance (NINA) is behind this restoration. David Corrigan, Program Manager for NINA, said this project began about two years ago. The organization buys blighted historical homes, fixes them up, and then sells to low- and moderate-income families. In this case, the new homeowners are both school principals.
This project received additional support from Aetna, City of Hartford, Clohessy Harris & Kaiser, Connecticut Light & Power, Serv Corps, and the Brickman Group.
