More than one year ago, Real Hartford reported that there were plans to paint green bike lanes on the section of Broad Street between Capitol Avenue and Farmington Avenue. Temporary striping for lanes and bike boxes occurred last November.
Late last week, the bright green lanes began to appear.
This area of Broad Street was expected to be closed to traffic all weekend for construction, but that never happened. There have been some changes to traffic flow on this street, yet work remains to be completed.
Next step Hartford might consider tackling: getting cyclists to not ride on sidewalks (as seen in picture) when bike lanes are available.

Lovely green. I will have stop and admire it on my way walking to work. One thing I wish for beyond moving all bikes off the sidewalk is that all have a bell or horn to warn walkers of their approach. You know one move to the left or right could result in injuries or death. This should be a law. Ha Ha Ha. As if but a few would obey it. Anyway as always a great photo and article.

Almost two years for a coat of paint… just in time for Winter. Now if they’d just do Capitol & Park for those of us going East/West. Maybe another two years?

There was a car stopped in the bike lane the other day, in a spot where it could have pulled over into a parking spot, to change a tire. At the same time, the Flower St. “mitigation path”, which runs in a direction opposite of Flower St., was closed off. Construction on Sigourney has made that option even more confusing. I’m not sure where someone would have had to go. Laurel Street? All the way into Downtown and then backtrack?
