There will be a candlelight vigil at 6pm on Monday, September 8th in support of the parents of Jillian Burgos, the Hartford teenager who has been missing since August 25th. Jillian is from the Parkville section and her family says that it is not like her to take off like this. If anyone sees her or has information, contact Sgt. Sonia Watson (860) 757-4482 or Det. Ivys Arroyo (860) 757-4236. If you call after hours, use the call back procedure.
The candlelight vigil is hosted by Hartford Areas Rally Together, both to raise awareness of Jillian’s disappearance and of what they say is “the disparity in how missing children in urban centers are handled.” A message from Mayra Esquilin of HART says “Although around one half of the missing children in this country are boys and racial minorities, mainstream media mostly highlights cases of white missing children, especially young Caucasian girls.”
“We want to make sure that every child matters, no matter their race or zip code,” says Esquilin.
The vigil will be held at Dillon Stadium on Huyshope Avenue in Hartford.
