Joyce Basco and others on the parks committee of the south west behind the rocks nrz have suggested in meetings that the city was supposed to finish it down to newfield ave…what i really want to see happen (and haven’t been able to get down on that part of the river yet to see if its feasible) is for the bike path to be paved and continue over to new park to link up with the trout brook trail that links quaker to new park. apparently people are talking about extending the south park river trail up toward pope park now…again same source at the nrz.
There is a piece of paper somewhere to do what you just described. However, I think the grant money has been spent with what has been done so far (the paved and unpaved sections). I haven’t seen anything in the CIP to do additional work.
The ATV trail does continue to Newfield and when it’s not wet, it’s an alright trail. On the other side of the Park River near the housing authority is a veritable motorcross track. Down stream from the motorcross track is another trail that runs downstream along the job corps’ playing fields, eventually crosses the river and meets back up with the gravel trail depicted above.
If HPD was serious about enforcement of this stuff, a one day sting at the trailheads in this area and the would round up 1/2 the dirtbikes and ATV’s in the south end. It is impossible that they don’t know this area exists. Our own Fire Chief has complained about it on seeclickfix.
I saw a child, 8-10 yrs old, riding an ATV up the Farmington Avenue sidewalk (such as it is) yesterday afternoon. He was directly across from the police substation. Not wearing a helmet. He was on the sidewalk, so obviously, that’s safe.
I called in ATV’s pulling out of a garage on Capitol. Gave the color of the ATV’s and the address – 1052 Capitol Ave. If HPD can’t act on that, I’m not sure what else community members can do.
Hoping they head over there and impound the off road vehicles.

Unfinished (well, unpaved) South Park river trail near Sherbrooke between NBA and Flatbush (?)

ATV track on the south branch of the Park River across the river from Walmart.

This is a more accurate answer.
It’s the South Branch Park River trail, an unfinished bit.
You two can find a way to split the smugness.
Brendan
I believe there are not any plans to pave that section. It was a gift to the ATV community… along with the rest of the city.

I don’t think that’s a substation anymore. There’s a sign on the door that says Arrow and I only see lab-coated people walking in and out.

Down by Sigourney, not in the West End
