Originally supposed to happen at the beginning of the month, the temporary closure of the I-84 West entrance ramp on Capitol Avenue will be happening on February 27, 28, and it looks like March 1. The bulletin released by CTfastrak says that the ramp will be closed starting at 10pm on both February 27 and February 28, and then re-opening the following mornings at 5.
According to the bulletin, this closure is necessary so that the existing railroad bridge can be safely removed. They claim that pedestrians and cyclists will not be impacted.
The East Coast Greenway parallels the railroad bridge, so users of this section behind the Legislative Office Building might want to use Capitol Avenue or Farmington Avenue if in a hurry and not willing to risk unexpected delay.
Other new CTfastrak-created issues for us: there will be lane closures, traffic shifts, and sidewalk closures on Sigourney Street between Park Terrace and Farmington Avenue, and on Hawthorn Street between Imlay Street and Sigourney Street. As if it were not already bad enough with the potholes, highway ramp anarchy, and the vehicular madness in front of 25 Sigourney Street.
The DOT says that “business and residential access will be maintained at all times.” They also claim that “pedestrian detours will also be in place to maintain walking access around the construction zones.”
