Real Art Ways has been shaking things up lately down in Parkville.
On Friday, the shaking was accompanied by some shimmying, teasing, and posing.
Dot Mitzvah hosted “Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School,” which brought in more patrons than there were chairs to sit on. Some took up seats to ogle, as others sketched the model, Kitty Katastrophe, while standing.
The crowd was a mix of those with actual artistic ability, and others who were just there for kicks.
Hartford Prints! donated some art supplies for those who arrived empty-handed.
Two of the poses led to drawing contests, with winners receiving a poster and a gift certificate.
After sketching, Kitty Katastrophe did a burlesque number inspired by Bettie Page.
For the uninitiated, burlesque is not just stripping off retro costumes. It’s supposed to be lighthearted, with the last moments serving as a punchline. It’s more kitsch than seduction.
Following the act, guests were led into the Real Art Ways’ cinema for a screening of Bettie Page Reveals All, the authorized biography narrated by Page herself.
The film is scheduled to play through January 16, 2014. For more details on tickets and times, visit the Real Art Ways website.
