If you’ve used Constitution Plaza in recent months, you have no doubt noticed the ongoing reconstruction of the area around the Boat Building.
The plaza is about to become trickier to navigate. From June 17th-July 3rd a large section of the plaza will be closed; pedestrians have been instructed to use State Street and Columbus Boulevard.
For those who use the pedestrian/cyclist segment of the Founders Bridge to commute between Hartford and East Hartford — which overlaps with part of the East Coast Greenway — what alternate routes will you be using to get around this closure?

Probably using Charter Oak and Bulkeley bridges. Will add bout 1/2 to 1 mile to downtown centered trips coming from EH.

You mean they won’t let us on the Science Center escalators with a bike?
I guess I could get on the path off of Van Dyke & climb the Recapture steps, but Bulkeley adds less than a half-mile for me, and Charter Oak a little bit more. Not horrible.
At least we got a warning. The path between the Hartford Club and Constitution Plaza has been intermittently open/closed.

More research needed. I don’t know why the plaza would be closed in the Science Center area, so it seems like the elevators by that or the Marriott could be used.

I don’t know what it is about that transitional area between Constitution Plaza and the bridge over to Riverfront Plaza, but I just block out in my mind, (or never even notice) that there is a staircase leading down to Columbus & State on the North side of that stretch. And an elevator that is only open during the daytime on the South side of the bridge.

i love that staircase. especially now that i have proper rules on how to walk on stairs.
we just got word at work about the closure. the notice is actually pretty good. it’s an inconvenience, sure, but at least this time i

It does look like the area beyond the bridge will be open
