For those unaware, Park Street is the venue of an unofficial procession-of-sorts the night before the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade. There are as many opinions on this event as there are people, from those who embrace and participate in the ruckus, to those who pull their hair out over it, to those who shrug it off as the equivalent of drunken block parties downtown that now seem to span the entire month of March.
Late into the night, food trucks were selling pinchos, ice cream, and more. The horn honking, tire squealing, and cheering peaked early, entertaining those who brought their lawn chairs to sit on the sidewalk and watch.
These recordings were taken during a walk down Park Street, between Washington and Putnam, at points from 10-11 last night. There has been no editing or amplification of the recordings.
Parade Eve on Park Street by realhartford
The official, family-friendly parade begins today at noon on the corner of Wawarme and Wethersfield. It goes down Main Street, turns, and ends at Bushnell Park. There will be dominoes, music, and food in the park.

So excited. Made a point to ride down Park last night. Energy from all directions. Although, the pump operated air horns could get annoying, kind of like vuvuzelas…

Horn Headache.

It’s like someone said, “Vuvuzelas are really irritating and all, but you have to put down your food, drink, or smokes to blow into them to make noise! Compressed air will level the playing field for wheezy would-be nosemaking pests!”
