Shoe, found at an entrance to Bushnell Park.
There must be a story to all the abandoned pieces of clothing — shoes (usually one at a time), pants, jackets. A missing glove makes sense. Take them off, stuff them into a pocket, and eventually, one or both will pry themselves loose and fall to the ground.
But a single shoe?
Does one not notice that he or she is teetering along, uneven by inches? Even the loss of one being carried would be noticed. They have weight.
Was this thrown in an argument?
Is this another art installation that will receive applause from one person and questions from the dozens?
Is the economy so strong that we can discard shoes wherever?

probably was thrown at an education reformer… Or should have been, anyway.

Too bad it’s scuffed. And only one shoe.

If I had to guess about this shoe I would say Emma Jean was out walking and came upon the yarn creations, took off her shoe and threw it at the display. Then later in the evening some varmit came along fell it love with the smell of the shoe and was in the process of dragging it to its burrow when another varmit came along and they got into a fight over the shoe. Both were seen running across the park towards the pond leaving the shoe behind to become part of your wonderful Sidewalk installations.
You should really select some, enlarge them and have a show at La Paloma. Found art at its best with everyone’s guess of the who, what, where, when and why of it all.

I like that story and this idea.
Sometimes I wonder if I should create a communal Lost & Found box somewhere and just drop all the clothing into it that I find. I figure the shoes with all find their mates eventually.
