In Your Neighborhood is a weekly photo series showcasing Hartford’s neighborhoods. This is the beginning of the second round of the series.
Please share this with someone you know who has either a neighborhood-specific or Hartford-in-general phobia.

Thanks!

I swear to god, every time I see the Wexford plaque get tagged I just wanna buy some white spray paint and go tag “Wexford” on every single tag in Wexford. Fuckin A.

I brought this up at Skatepark meeting to someone — can we all just agree to tag every single thing in the park *except* the monument/plague?!

We’ve sent some recommendations to the city that we think will help stop the tagging on statues/monuments, etc. Hopefully, they will be implemented soon.
Also, a lot of kids that use the park agree that its getting out of hand as well.
PS…nice pics!

Talked to Zulu today. He’s gonna try to commit to a weekly check in on the monument. They’re cleaning it today as well.
Thx for update Dave!

Thanks! It’s important to strike a balance between sanitizing the city in the way that some would like, and allowing people to have artistic expression.

I vote to remove all old monuments. No monuments no tags. Special attention to cleaning one monument how about attention to all, all around the city. Tags are everywhere proving to me tags are ALIVE, monumnets to the past are dead. But give a ha ha I know what you all mean in a way, as we do not want any heat to come down on heaven or its inhabitants.

Agreed. Can we start with the Columbus statue on Washington St 🙂
Richard
Yes yes yes. Do you remember when we had the discussion on the MAN allowing us artists to do our art in the place the MAN said we should not where the man says we shouldn’t. Then we get into the MAN as in control of art and we become much like the art systems that survive because of the MAN. Then we have to think about judge and jury and folks saying, this art is getting out of hand, and then I have to say PU I am too old for this and will now be quiet and let you young folks figure it all out. Anyway one last note, the painting around the park is very alive, very beautiful and is worth 100 times more than any old monument but that is just this old coots thoughts.
