The Sandy Hook Run for the Families 5K reached its registration capacity of 15,000 participants. The event’s website says that today’s 5K was “not about running. It is about life: honoring the memory of precious lives lost through tragedy and celebrating the gift of life. It is about uniting in hope for the future.”

Great pictures!
I ponder the attention shown towards these victims of violent crime in a suburban/rural location as juxtaposed to the general lack of attention shown regarding victims of urban violent crime. My heart aches for the children in Sandy Hook, and for their families. My heart aches too for the many friends and neighbors who have lost sons and daughters, parents, friends to senseless urban crime.

I’ve had several people privately express similar thoughts to me, so thanks for making this public. I was wondering the same. When will people travel from the 203 and out-of-state to remember the victims of urban violence? They are equally as deserving of such attention and fundraising.
