Forgoing their traditional Plays in the Parks series, HartBeat Ensemble arranged a one-day Arts in the Park festival, featuring performances by youth.
The afternoon included African dance and drumming, jazz, and other musical performances. It concluded with “If Divided We Stand Then United We Fall,” a play written and produced by youth ages 16-25. This piece touched on issues of homophobia, racial stereotypes among those of the same race, bullying, and the continued struggle for teens to fit in with their peers.
HartBeat Ensemble will be taking its FLIPSIDE on the road to the New York International Fringe Festival starting August 12, 2012.
