The second round of Real Hartford 5th Anniversary fun-n-games requires creativity.
Candy Chang of New Orleans wondered how people might influence development. She created fill-in-the-blank stickers which instead of reading “Hello my name is ____” state “I WISH THIS WAS_____.” People fill them out and stick them on all manner of surfaces, including vacant and/or blighted buildings.
Your mission: In the comments below, let us know what you wish any of the buildings and lots in these photos actually were. You do not need to include the number of the photo unless your suggestion/dream/wish/demand is specific to that location.
Those with the most creative or just best (totally subjective, I know) response(s) will be in the running for a small prize at the end of the week. You can enter as many times as you feel inspired. There could be multiple winners.
Leave your guesses here in the comments!

#2 a shoe store (and one with plenty of size 11 shoes)
Kerri Provost
Amen!
Jennifer S.
Also, for a couple of its neighbors, a bike shop (offering rentals) and a good ice cream shop (good = half way between DQ and froo froo (spelling? but you know, not Coldstone or Pinkberry).
kerri
So, like the A.C. Pete’s for downtown?
Jennifer S.
Perfect
Jane
Ooh! UCONN Dairy Bar branch. YUMerooni. The Business school students could run it and be responsible for profits/losses, etc..
Kerri Provost
Oh, hell yeah! Wonder if Panagore is listening.
MattFriedrichs
Not pictured, but I wish the triangular building at High and Ann was a local coffee shop or cafe with live music featuring musicians of all ages.

As for No. 1, it has the makings of a great, permanent haunted house or crazy modern gym.
And No. 2, I wish was a mixed commercial, residential neighborhood.
Kerri Provost
It might already be a haunted house 🙂 That’d require few modifications from the City.
Heather B
1 – a greenhouse
2 – a locally-owned bookstore/cafe
3 – student housing
4 – a pocket park with water features, shade, seating, and flowers
kerri
#4– imagine coming off the highway to be greeted with flowers! Sunflowers, please!
Rich H
Heather wins my vote on all four.
Kerri Provost
Yeah, but I like Amy’s response for #2 a lot.
Amy Bergquist
1. a grocery store.
2. in West Hartford. (this doesn’t fit Downtown, for me)
3. reasonable rate apartments.
4. a multi-story shopping mall w/stores locally and nationally owned.
Richard
#1 Knocked down Its an eyesore.(full of rats, bats, skunks and dirty birds.)
#2 Never Built. What a waste when you think about it. Again big dreamers too big for their own britches.
#3 single room housing. OH, I forgot can’t have such stuff near the park or in too cool downtown.
#4 the same as it was. Stupid dreamers knocked down one of the most significant buildings on the plaza. Now what have we got?
Tianna
1. I wish this was a dance studio/art/meeting space that could be (reasonably) rented out to the community.
2. I wish this were a Dave & Busters!
4. I wish this was the location of a two floor, reasonably priced grocery store
Karen
Not meant to be tongue in cheek: “I wish this were Detroit and not Hartford.” (For all four)
Kerri Provost
WINNERS: Heather and Jennifer!
(I’ll be in touch with you two before the end of the week about your fabulous/insignificant prizes)
Brendan
Luxury condos for all four!
Kerri Provost
You’re using the If You Build It, They Will Come philosophy…how quaint!
