Today is the final day of this year’s weekend-long jazz festival. The Paul Brown Quintet takes the stage at 4:30; they will be followed by the Josh Evans Sextet. The Al Foster Quartet closes out the festival.
The festival, in Bushnell Park, is free, family-friendly, and chill. There are no gates to pass through; there’s nobody poking through bags and coolers. Picnics are welcomed, but organizers ask that people not bring gas grills or set up large umbrellas that can block the view of the stage.
Not feeling like bringing your own meals? There’s plenty to buy. Besides the restaurants downtown, there are food trucks set up along Trinity Street.
To keep kids busy, there are bounce houses, extended hours for the carousel, and a playground in the park.
If you miss the music today, it’s actually not your last chance for jazz in the park. Through August 8th, the Hartford Jazz Society‘s Monday Night Jazz series will continue with the free concerts, which begin at 6pm. The food and merchandise vendors, though, will not be present for the Monday evening series.
