It will be illegal in Connecticut to discriminate against a person based on his or her gender identity and expression. Governor Malloy released the following statement early this morning:
This bill is another step forward in the fight for equal rights for all of Connecticut’s citizens, and it’s the right thing to do. It’s difficult enough for people who are grappling with the issue of their gender identity, and discrimination against them has no place in our society. Connecticut has lead the way in other civil rights issues and I’m proud to be able to support and sign this bill.
Check out the article on CT News Junkie to see why this bill is not really all about bathroom use.

Awesome news! This is truly turning into one of the best session in my memory. Alot of progressive stuff coming out .
One quick Anecdote about Malloy and the Transgender community. Every November the Ct Trans Advocacy Coalition hold their annual vigil remembering those individuals who are brutally murdered simply because they did not conform to societies standards of what a “real man or woman” looks or acts like. November of 2009 I attended on a cold winter evening and marched with about 100 or so spirited souls from the First Presbyterian Church on Capitol Avenue to the North steps of the Capitol for the rally.
Waiting for us at the steps was, then candidate Dan Malloy. He joined us and gave a very nice political speech which wasn’t all to memorable. I was however, very impressed that this man took the time out to come to a very small group of people at a very small rally and say “Hey, I hear you. And if I get elected and have a chance to do something to make your life better, I will.”
It’s very appropriate that he is the Governor that signs this very important law into effect.
