Today is Bike Day which wraps up Bike Week, but there are still a few days left to Bike Month. This morning, far earlier than anyone should even be up out of bed, a group of about a hundred cyclists rallied at the Capitol.

My wife is interested in the safest way to bike from the West End to Hartford Hospital. Any thoughts?

There is a bike lane on Capitol Avenue, so I would definitely use that instead of Farmington Ave. From there, I’d go right on Putnam and then left down Russ Street. This will bypass a lot of the hwy on/off ramp nonsense. At the end of Russ, I guess she’d go right onto Washington and that’ll about get her there. This is the route I’d take. Curious though if others have different suggestions.

So my wife did the ride today and said it was awesome, 15 minutes door to door… she encountered the usual friendly heckling, such as, “Mama’s got wheels!” but she says for the most part, it is friendly in nature.

Glad to hear the trip went smoothly! Well, anything compared to Farmington Avenue is smooth. I rode on it a few times in the past week…there are bruises now in places where bruises ought not be!

Here’s a second to Kerri’s Westend to Htfd Hospital Route. And Kerri, mahalo plenty for capturing the day with your lens, and if I may, especially for the photo capturing my aloha for Speaker of the House Donovan. We go back to 1980 where we cut our public advocacy teeth at Conencticut Citizen Action Group. We are truly fortunate he is Connecticut’s Man of the House! hey: see that blue sky now? sweet. Ride On!
