This weekend was the closing reception for the Ricardo Levins Morales exhibit at the Broad Street Gallery. The artist flew to Hartford and was available for conversation with those making their way through the gallery. Posters and notecards of his work were for sale at affordable prices. He’ll be giving a talk at La Paloma Sabanera on Monday.
The reception was not a wine and cheese affair; it was an iced tea and rice & beans one. Think block party, not snob fest. Drumming and bubble-making were free activities happening on the lawn. The price? Free.
Meanwhile, the Trinity International Hip-Hop Festival was happening right around the corner. The price for this event was also free. The Mill at 79 Vernon Street was open, allowing the public to view art (first photo in post and below) and participate in it. A graffiti wall was set up behind the building. The Mill is a space on the Trinity College campus dedicated to creativity.
