Hartford’s Department of Public Works will be collecting trees (presumably Christmas, but I’m sure they won’t discriminate) from January 10-28, 2011.
The press release from the City of Hartford states that residents should remove ornaments from the trees, which seems like a no-brainer. Aren’t tree decorations the kind of sentimental thing to keep and not throw away? The reason for needing naked trees is simple: they are reduced to mulch and woodchips, which are best without bonus garlands and snowglobes.
If there are any problems or questions, they ask that residents call 311.

To foster better mulching, I shall henceforth decorate my trees with hemp-threaded strings of popcorn and cranberries. All garlands will be edible and/or biodegradable.
It shall be a holiday snack tree, lovely to behold and nourishing to nibble, until such time that it attracts, and is inevitably overrun by, vermin.
Brendan
I plan to put a bunch of maples on the curb.
