Rell’s legacy can be summed up in fewer than 36 pages: she started off strong, clearing house of corruption, and then lost momentum after about two weeks. She maintained popularity by keeping herself out of major scandals; she also managed to keep herself from making any real important decisions. It’s tempting to blame Connecticut’s budget woes entirely on former Governor Rell, but that’d give her too much credit. The nation, afterall, has been mired in economic problems. She signed the same-sex marriage bill and allowed some mass transit improvements.
Moving on.

If she’d run for the Republican Senate spot, I think she’d be in the Senate now. Not because she was so great but because she didn’t piss people off and did do things like sign the same-sex marriage bill. She would have trounced Linda and beaten Blumenthal, I bet.

I agree. While McMahon was really divisive, Rell was never offensive to a huge number of people.
