If you started the new year resolving to leave your job in a highly dramatic manner (see profanity-laced how-to video below), prepare for your next move before burning those bridges.
There are several upcoming workshops and networking events for those looking for a change of employment.
On January 11th the Hartford Public Library will be offering a workshop to orient job seekers to JobNow, a web-based resource and to work with career coaches. This will allow participants to work on resumes, practice interviewing, and more.
Future use of this program is free when the user types in his library card number. This workshop will take place in the Learning Lab at the downtown library from 6:30-7:15pm. If you miss this date, another one of these workshops will be offered on January 22nd from 1:30-2:15pm, but will be in the Job and Career Services Center at the downtown library.
A free career skills workshop will be held on January 15. The workshop will include resume and cover letter preparation, and job search and interviewing tips. This will run from 2:30-4:30 and will be held in The Studio at Billings Forge, located on Broad Street.
If starting your own business is more appealing than continuing to work for others, you might want to check out Entrepreneur Success Stories in the MetroHartford Alliance Boardroom (31 Pratt Street, 5th floor) on January 19th from 6-8pm. This event is free to members and non-members, but space is limited so register in advance.
