Three Kings Day (or El Día de Reyes) — January 6th — is celebrated as the day that the magi brought gifts to baby Jesus. There’s more to it than that, which, if you celebrate, you already know; however, for the non-Christians, there’s something in this we can celebrate too– camels! Hartford Public Schools are closed for this holiday, enabling families to gather along Park Street to watch the parade which will gather around 9:00, begin around 10 in the morning near the Spanish American Merchants Association (95 Park Street), and end in Pope Park.

Let’s hope that the city finally removes the snow banks and snow from the sidewalk on the north west corner of the intersection Park and Park Terrace. The “I left my brains home for the day” person who plowed the side walk west to east and north to south just stopped and left the snow right there. How much do we pay these city employees? How much is a supervisor paid. This is city sidewalks we are talking about.
I have been calling, all the way up to the Mayors office since last Thursday and no one has done it yet. 311 is not at all helpful and really has no power to do anything.
Now I hear they will be doing snow removal tonight along Park St. So it must take a few camels in the streets to get the public works dept. off their butts and remove the snow. All week since the storm they have paid this no mind, and folks in chairs, folks with children, folks with their groceries, old folks young folks and anyone else who would like to be safe crossing Park Terrace can’t do so. But come a show into the area a show where their blundering idiotness would be on display they will be all over the place like flies on do do doing what they should have done.
Next time I will call the police as that is what I was told to do if it is a business or home owner. Call the police on the city. I love it. Maybe the news media would be better.

They just got around to really plowing Capitol Avenue today, either because local businesses complained or because of the inauguration tomorrow. I don’t think everything has to happen immediately, but taking action over a week after a storm has stopped seems like utter incompetence.

Well yes but exp. if it is a major sidewalk in a dangerous area to cross and walk. There can be no excuse for just stopping the plow and leaving snowbanks and snow in the middle of the sidewalk. They started but then stopped. Oh, must have been called away for something more important. We will see tomorrow afternoon.

I went past the Park Terrace and Park Street intersection this evening and saw what you were talking about. How can someone be so lazy as to stop plowing the sidewalks where they did? The ineptitude of a few makes everyone in the snow removal business look bad.

So they finally got rid of the snow last night. Noticed it when I took the bus this morning.
Must be the camels coming that did it. So now I will say a little prayer to the 3 kings to bring on the camels each and everytime it snows so we can be sure that the city does their job in removing the snow from city intersection sidewalks and not put folks in danger.
But what bothers me the most is not one person for almost one week even bothered to return my calls or to tell me what was up until I really let off some good hot queen steam yesterday on the phone and then some offical called.

If the mayor of NYC can be all “whatever” when scores of emergency vehicles were unable to get to patients/hospitals, then why shouldn’t officials here, where we had less of a snowpocalypse than NYC did?
