It has been just over six months since a resolution was passed to adopt the “One City, One Plan — POCD 2020.” Some of the suggestions that residents made during the One City, One Plan discussions are already taking shape.
During talks, some residents mentioned the need for more family-oriented activities in Downtown, namely a movie theater and a roller rink. Kind of the same, but different, we have a temporary ice rink in Bushnell Park and a cinema is slated to move into the Front Street District during 2011. Maybe the ice rink could be used as a roller rink in warmer weather. Of course, the ongoing demand for a grocery store in Downtown was made several times over, and we know that a compromise shop opened on Asylum Street in the form of a bodega that carries milk and stays open late.
Another concern — traffic calming — is in the process of being addressed. Cityline announced today that a mysteriously unnamed grant will help fund traffic calming measures by providing speed tables and traffic cameras, though no word was given as to where these would be installed.
There was talk of developing a tree ordinance, as one of the quality of life issues faced by Blue Hills residents is that of tree problems. There is now a proposed ordinance in the works, which may or may not be what folks had in mind.
Redeveloping Nelton Court was a concern and it is scheduled to happen in/by 2012.
Not a bad start. Here’s to hoping the traffic calming measures are installed sensibly (not politically) and that no momentum is lost in the next six months.

Progress is never as swift as we would like. But as long as it is steady and forward moving, it’s a move in the right direction.
