A big bravo and 100 cheers for those responsible for releasing Anne Lister from the confines imposed upon her by hetro society. And more and more to those responsible for breaking her code and translating her dairies. Queers everywhere welcome Miss Lister free of her straight jacket and out from between the lines where many of our writers, artists, and other have been forced to dwell for years.
As Sue Perkins asks where was this story when we learned about the period in history? Where many of our stories dwell, hidden, suppressed, omitted, erased and destroyed by straight society unwilling to admit our greats to take their rightful place with the best of all.
We are lucky to live in this age. For the past 40 + years our scholars, historians (how I hate that “his” word and prefer to use “our” stories) artists, poets and academics have been doing just what these two movies and diary do, help us all to take our rightful place and bring truth to a lying world.
