These are great pictures. The story is very sad, and unfortunately quite typical here in Hartford. Our city leaders do not seem to care a whit about preserving our city’s physical fabric. For my entire life I have watched the city demolish itself, leaving permanent scars on the built environment of the city. A street with a few missing houses or buildings suddenly feels derelict. Juan and I have been waking down Broad Street from our home on Asylum Hill to see movies at Cinestudio and visit his family on lower Broad Street. We have discussed the movie theater several times, how nice it would be if it could be reused. Particularly cool to have another movie house, creating a sort of triangle of movie options with Cinestudio and RAW, all walking distance. I bet we will now get to walk past a parking lot instead. An old movie house inspires vision, nostalgia, creativity. A parking lot, not so much.
