The Courant reports that Tanuki Japanese Noodle Kitchen has closed.
Dear Restaurants,
Please publicly announce plans to close shop. Your patrons would like to make a point to visit one last time before we can no longer enjoy your foodstuffs. For instance, when Timothy’s closed, we were notified a few weeks in advance so that we could go grab one last piece of Black Magic Cake. I know that circumstances sometimes make these things impossible, but please try. It’s nice to have closure.
Thanks,
Kerri

another pratt st. business has to close. as the downtown hartford residential dream seems to have hit a bit of the recession flu (or something related to that), there has not been the hoped transformation in downtown hartford. certainly the owners of the real estate in the area are not doing anybody favors by charging rental rates that must be among the highest in Connecticut.
an impossible environment for a business to flourish. no easy answers either. it would be nice if the hartford 21 real estate ownership would break the ice by allowing some commerical tenants into their “prime” Hartford 21 commerical real estate space. as those areas have been a ghost town for about three years. meanwhile pratt st. is the essence of the hartford commericial real estate market. a beautiful quiet street. close to the downtown of a truly nice city. but hard for business to survive (re: joe blacks, etc.)…

Also note that now almost every single business on that SIDE of Pratt street is closed– only Jojo’s, the hardware store, and the eyewear place are left. Not only do real estate prices need to come down, but particularly in those series of buildings. At least the restaurants & shops on the other side of Pratt get a fighting chance. I love Pratt street and wish it could be full of small businesses and foster the kind of community spirit that Jojo’s has been able to.
