I have been wanting to post pictures of the strange things that I find while walking around Hartford. The idea came to me last summer when on my way to the University of Hartford I saw a Bible left on the sidewalk on Scarborough Street. Because oddities are not predictable, I make no promises as to how frequently I will post installations of sidewalk object pictures.
Today’s photo–a syringe–was taken on Capitol Ave between Laurel St and Park Pl.

Can’t wait to see more. I know I will love this series.
Isn’t it wonderful the things that us walkers see that those on wheels never do. Once I saw what looked like a thousand ants carrying a dead beetle home.

my understanding is that governor rell intends to slash needle exchange programs during this budget session. too bad. needle exchange saves money on the back end of health care when individuals become sick due the effects of dirty needles.

I was happy that the user capped the needle and also that I was able to warn a foam flip-flop wearing teen girl about the potential danger ahead. Even capped, who wants one of those things that close to their piggies?
This is actually the second needle I’ve encountered in about two weeks.

not a suprise. a big “secret” in the northeast is that there is a serious heroin problem. clean needle programs are essential. governor rell is making a serious mistake if she decides to cut these programs.
a couple of years back i spoke at a Springfield city council meeting on the issue. Springfield city council has blocked clean needle programs for a few years now.
