Previously, I promised to discuss all my other vices in upcoming blog posts. This seems ridiculously self indulgent, so I am going to limit myself to writing about those vices / habits / addictions which might have relevance to the topic of the blog.
My obsession with fashion is what could be called an open secret. I think about the story “Everyday Use” in which the characters debate an heirloom quilt. Is it better to hang it on the wall as a decoration, or is it better to use it as an actual quilt? This is how I justify fashion. It’s wearable art. It’s far more functional than a sculpture or painting, even when it might not be practical.
Enter the enablers. Down at The Warehouse on Bartholomew Avenue, there will be a fashion show at 8pm on March 7th. This will feature local designers–Nikki Gwinn, Karen Rosario, and Daniella Vlad–and clothing from Fiona Stone Boutique and NIRO Couture boutique.
Tickets are $20 at the door / $15 in advance. This is a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Research & Women’s Health Awareness, with the proceeds going to UConn Health Center. There will be food, drinks, music, and a mix of other activities.
