Discover Hartford Bicycle and Walking Tour

9/8/07

9:15am+

Bushnell Park

Come to Hartford. You probably won’t get shot.

The Hartford Bike Tour takes participants all over the city, depending on whether cyclists opt for the 10 or 25-mile route. Organizers promise that you’ll have fun and will be surprised by some of the sites (and sights) along the route. You don’t have to be in top shape to ride– it’s not a race!

Hope Out Loud

9/9/07  12-5pm

Bushnell Park

Every year around the anniversary of September 11, the community holds a peace and music festival to mark the day in the true spirit of patriotism. Politically and socially conscious musicians, speakers, and performers entertain throughout the afternoon at this family-friendly event. Local organizations set up booths to provide information on issues, announce events/actions, and collect signatures for petitions.

On this year’s roster are Dawn Terese, Fuego del Corazon, Just Harmony, Hap Hazard, Mira w/ Mind Evolution, and probably some yet-to-be-announced performers.

“An Evening of Literary and Patriotic Dissent”

Real Art Ways – 9/11/07 – 7:30 pm

On the sixth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, three authors will be sharing their reflections of American life. They will be “looking at patriotism, partisan politics, and how our national identity has evolved.” As time goes on, it seems that people are reclaiming their ability to be critical and creative thinkers, and this evening’s event promises to exemplify that.

After the readings, the audience will be able to ask questions and briefly share their own thoughts on life in a Post-9/11 world.

Event speakers:

Steve Almond – journalist, commentator, and fiction writer.

Ellen Litman – novelist

Alistair Highet – editor of Hartford Advocate

The event is free for R.A.W. members, and is $5 for everyone else. For more info, call (860) 280-7102 x118 or check out the website
