The curse of Parkville: nearly every time I have set out to photograph this neighborhood, it has either rained or the camera batteries have all mysteriously drained. Most installments of In Your Neighborhood are photographed on one or two days. These are compiled from far more trips than that.
What you need to know about Parkville is that if its residents do not want something, they will fight it. They have an active NRZ. They show up for meetings to protest things like gas stations.
Some blocks have distinct character, such as part of Newton Street, where residents have posted a number of signs warning dog owners to pick up after the animals.
You can find restaurants and retail on Park Street and New Park Avenue.
Pope Park West has become overgrown, with trash receptacles spilling over and access points locked or blocked.
The Corridor of Hope/Stretch of Sketch connects Parkville to Frog Hollow on Capitol AvenueThe In Your Neighborhood series is published on the weekend. Photos are taken while walking or riding a bike. This series intends to show Hartford’s neighborhoods on an average day (or days).

What is that amphitheater across from Divi Divi’s? Looks like an ideal spot for Col. Pope’s Hot Several summer concert and marching band demolition derby series.

That is part of Pope Park West, which was my suggestion for where some of the spoken word events that had taken place at La Paloma could relocate.

Does anybody use it?
