In Your Neighborhood is a weekly photo series designed to show the different areas of Hartford on the average day. If you know someone whose entire perception of the city is based on what they see on the evening news, please share this series with him or her.

I believe that the no-name park actually does indeed have a name, but I cannot recall what it is. We always called it “the basketball court behind the fire station” but I feel like I recall a dedication ceremony happening. It’s quite new, I think Elizabeth Horton Sheff got it funded in the late 1990s.

In a push for something or other from the City just a few years ago, it was still being referred to as No Name Park. Doesn’t look like it’s seen funding since the late 1970s, frankly.

Well, as they say, elephants can remember. I suppose I need to find some elephants. (Hat tip to Agatha Christie on that one). This basically did not exist as a public space before improvements to make it into a basketball court sometime in the late 90s or early part of this century. I recall it being called “the basketball court” and you may be completely correct, it may have never been officially named. I remember when it was improved, there was a celebration. Would need to make some phone calls to nail down the year and other details as I have a truly terrible memory for those types of details.
Beautiful pictures just the same.
Odd, I lived in the West End for about 20 years, still work there, and have no idea how one accesses a trail along the Park River. I knew that there was one but I just never figured out how to get to it. I heard that there was once a bridge connecting behind the present Law School to the Woodland Street side, but that may be an urban legend.

If there was a bridge, it’s gone now.

Where is the blue house with the mansard roof?

From what I remember, there’s a similar house right next to it.

There is a very similar house next to it — one that has seen some serious TLC in the last two years and now looks as fantastic as its neighbor. I’ve always loved those two houses.

…and where is The Evergreen building????

What beautiful photo’s. The tulips were so lovely this year. Do you bring your lunch when you go out on these walks and shoots?
Kerri Provost
That’s probably a good idea. I usually wander without water or snacks. . . and then raid my fridge when I get back home.
