There’s an Spanglish sign on Hillside that says “Limber for sale”. For a couple of years I thought it was a misspelling of “lumber” and was perplexed where they kept the lumber.
A “limber” is a frozen juice in a plastic cup or just a juice ice cube. It comes from Puerto Rico, from about the same time commercial refrigeration and freezing became possible, which coincided with a visit by Charles Lindbergh (the famous aviator) to Puerto Rico in the 30s. You get the picture. There is nothing unique about a limber, it’s just frozen juice. But oh so refreshing on a hot day, especially if the juice is mango, guava, passion fruit, sour sop (guanabana) etc

And they’re sold pretty much every three houses in my neighborhood.
