If you’ve been following the Flower Street debacle at all, you’re familiar with the CT DOT’s desire to “mitigate” the closure of a north-south route by creating an east-west one between Broad Street and Flower Street.
Well, we found a path has essentially been created by throwing up some fencing along and below the highway.
After walking it a few times, we confirmed that it still does not solve the issue of traveling between Capitol Avenue and Farmington Avenue if the DOT is successful in its mission to shut Flower Street down to pedestrian and cyclist use. The street is already closed to motor vehicles.
There is a public meeting on Thursday during which the City of Hartford and CT DOT will discuss that Flower Street issue further.

That totally looks like a place I want to walk at night!

It’s fine at night, except that it still does not solve the whole directional issue or actually save time.
Brendan
A poorly lit cage is a safe place to walk at night?
Kerri Provost
I didn’t feel unsafe. Well, aside from wondering if I’d get hit by rubbish falling off the highway above.
Didn’t spot any feral pit bulls, so yes, I felt safe.
Brendan
I guess I’m just a big wuss.
