From yesterday’s City Council meeting minutes, prepared by Hartford 2000 and the Hartford Public Library:
24. Occupy Hartford. Resolution in support of Occupy Hartford and for continued dialogue that would reach a resolution allowing continued exercise of democracy to continue. (Cotto, Torres) Passed
To those just tuning in, it may seem that the ultimate goal of Occupy Hartford is not to bring attention to economic injustice, but to erect a tent city on an otherwise vacant piece of land.
Though not reflected in other media accounts, some individuals in the group have been pressing for other activists to pick their battles and stay focused on the reason for their gathering.

the tent issue appears to be a key battleground at this stage.. whether the city moves to eject the occupiers based on the tents is probably still being debated withing the halls of power.. there was solid support at the city council meeting last night for the supporters.. not clear what power the city council actually has in this particular scenario…
regardless of the tent issue, the occupiers will also have some future issues with their kitchen. the department of health regulations are quite clear on kitchens and the feeding of people. food not bombs has been fighting that issue for a long time.
the city wants some clear backing if it chooses to eject the occupiers. the situation is complex. the city probably wants to deal with it now before it picks up steam. however waiting a bit might be more productive in order to see exactly where the movement leads.
